Geneva Event Explores GDPR Certification and International Data Transfers

ASDPO and the European Center for Certification and Privacy recently organised a dedicated event at La Potinière in Geneva, bringing together stakeholders working at the intersection of GDPR certification, Swiss data protection, and international data transfers.

The discussion focused on the implications of the European Data Protection Board Opinions 14/2026 and 15/2026. Particular attention was given to the authorisation to use Europrivacy GDPR certification outside Europe, its relevance for Swiss organisations, and its role as a mechanism for international data transfers under Article 46 of the GDPR.

Dr Sébastien Ziegler, President of the Europrivacy International Board of Experts, participated in the session and contributed to the exchange on how certification frameworks can support regulatory compliance across jurisdictions.

Participants also discussed the potential of certification to strengthen accountability, reduce risk, support compliance, and create organisational value. The event presented the ongoing development of Interprivacy as an international counterpart to the European Data Protection Seal. Together, the two frameworks provide complementary tools for organisations pursuing a global approach to regulatory compliance.

Practical experience with European Data Protection Seals added an operational perspective to the discussion. Cédric Nedelec of PwC Luxembourg and Kamel Gadouche of CASD Data Technology shared insights into how certification can help applicants strengthen accountability, manage risks, and generate value within their organisations.

The European Center for Certification and Privacy would like to thank Alexandre Jotterand of ASDPO and id est avocats, Anne-Catherine Berg, President of ASDPO, as well as all speakers, participants, and partners for contributing to a valuable and engaging exchange.
